|February 2017 - Town Hall Series - Galen Karriker|
February is about more than presidents and Valentine's Day. It is also Mardi Gras Time! Luckily we have a native of Louisiana to bring us a taste of Mardi Gras traditions and music.
Dr. Galen Karriker is Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at The University of Akron. He teaches courses in instrumental conducting and marching band techniques, conducts the Symphonic Band and coordinates all University band programs. A graduate of Louisiana State University and Michigan State University, Dr. Karriker joined the The University of Akron faculty in 1999.
Galen grew up in Louisiana and became a musician at the urging of his mother, who played the drums. After taking piano lessons, he concentrated on percussion instruments. He also "moonlights" as a folk musician performing on the five-string and tenor banjo.
Make sure you mark your calendar now for this lively program. Wearing Mardi Gras colors and beads in encouraged!
